History
Native Agent began its life as an Art installation created by Rona Ngāhuia Osborne at Indicator Studios in Mount Eden in 2002. Rona created a series of pieces out of recycled woollen blankets that referenced her family history, the works also commented on the history of trade and exchange in Aotearoa. Using embroidered images depicting iconography such as the musket, flora and fauna, and extinct or endangered birds. Over the next few years this body of work grew into a range of textiles and homeware that is now known throughout the country and abroad. The first Native Agent retail store opened it's doors in Kingsland, Auckland in 2006. The store represented a carefully curated group of New Zealand artists, but at the heart of the store was always the products designed and produced by Rona, her partner Dan and their small team. Today the Native agent HQ and working studio is based in the Wekaweka Valley in the far north of New Zealand. Specialising in the creation of heirloom blankets, hand printed linen, limited edition cushions, prints and original art. The Native Agent brand is supported by a changing array of beautiful greenstone tāonga, fine jewellery, ceramics and more.
